Lost something in Korea? Check 습득물 검색, not 분실물 검색
One small menu detail can save a wasted search when you’ve lost a bag, wallet or phone in Korea.
On Police Minwon24, these are different:
습득물 검색 — items that have been found and handed in.
분실물 검색 — reports submitted by people who lost things.
분실물 신고 — the separate process for reporting a loss.
Official search: Search found items on Police Minwon24.
Start with the item type, area and 습득일자 (the date it was found). If nothing matches, broaden one condition at a time. That date is not necessarily when you noticed the loss.
For a possible match, note 관리번호 (the record’s management number) and 보관장소 (holding location). Before travelling there, ask the named office whether it still holds the item, its collection hours and what it needs to verify ownership. A search match is not a pickup appointment; proxy collection or overseas shipping is not automatic.
A Korean sentence for that call:
관리번호 ___의 물건이 현재 보관 중인가요? 수령 장소와 시간, 필요한 확인 자료를 알려주세요.
“Do you currently hold the item with management number ___? Please tell me the collection location, hours and the evidence needed to confirm ownership.”
I maintain SESEOL Notes. My English walkthrough includes the menu translations, search fields and collection questions: Lost-property walkthrough.
Keep identity checks with the holding office, not in public replies.
