Kyung Hee University Natural History Museum

Upon opening its doors in 1978, the Kyunghee University Natural History Museum served as a little respite of nature in the city that boasted of a collection of nearly 90,000 specimen on display. The museum was initially founded upon the purpose of realizing the Kyungee University founding ideology of "Creating a world of culture" grounded in the results that had been obtained through several years of studying nature. The effort continues to approach the distancing relationship between nature and humankind amid rapid societal changes and urbanization with a "respite of nature in the city" that provides a sense of living in harmony with nature. 

All six floors of the museum display easy-to-understand exhibits capturing a comparison between the current state of evolution and the process of transformation up to the present-day with specimen of different plants and animals, as well as various rocks from sedimentary to igneous and metamorphic rocks that were used for research purposes by specialized teams of professors in various fields. There are courses and tour programs offered to help understand and practice nature preservation and the importance of life within the framework of these exhibited specimen. 

The Kyunghee University Natural History Museum has collected numerous specimen since the 1940s, while possessing a collection of more recent domestic specimen that have already become extinct or show signs of endangerment. The museum offers the opportunity for children and adults alike to more systematically learn about the classification and ecosystems of animals and plants and prioritizes itself with the fervor of exploring nature, as well as the awareness of nature protection.
