Dongdaemun History Museum
A museum that retraces the history of the former Dongdaemun Stadium site.
About
The Dongdaemun History Museum was established as a space to retrace the history of the former Dongdaemun Stadium site by preserving and exhibiting buried artifacts excavated during the construction of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park. In the past, this area was the eastern region of the Seoul City Wall, where fortress defense facilities and various military installations were deployed to overcome the geographical disadvantages vulnerable to defense. As a result of excavation investigations conducted in 2008-2009, the walls and bastions (Chiseong) of the Seoul City Wall, the Igansumun watergate, and building sites from the Joseon Dynasty ,which were presumed to have been destroyed during the park creation and stadium construction during the Japanese colonial period, were confirmed, and related artifacts were excavated in large quantities. Please confirm the history layered upon the former Dongdaemun Stadium site at the Dongdaemun History Museum.
